The sun reached its peak time in the ‘air’ today, and if we look back on what has been achieved in the last 12 months, I would say that we are making progress…

Oh yeah, there have been thousands of megawatts of solar added in the United States, but this year we are seeing the benefit in bold terms in California. The drought has desiccated the hydroelectric resource normally available and lo, and behold, there is enough solar input into the grid to offset that loss.

So what have we learned from this news? My take is that climate change is real, and that the renewable energy resources that will combat climate change can also help to mitigate the effects thereof, which are predicted to linger for decades after man-made atmospheric carbon has been subdued. It’s a two-fer, thanks to our greatest and most useful source of energy, the sun.

Why, then, should we shrink from our responsibility to derive modern electrical energy from sources that are consistently renewable? Unless our irresponsible abuse of petrochemical resources covers the planet in a cloud shroud, solar and wind will be our most available and most reliable source of power for future generations, so will the present generations please get with the program? Why be part of the problem when you can be part of the SOLution?  Support and use solar energy today!

About The Author - Jeremy Smithson

Started Puget Sound Solar in 2001 with 30 years of construction contracting experience, and a desire to turn Seattle on to solar energy. Achieving NABCEP certification in 2004, Jeremy believes that our customers often follow a path similar to the one he took, starting out with solar daydreaming, then progressing to education on the subject, and eventually leading to action. In addition to leading the company he also does some teaching and speaking engagements about various aspects of solar energy, and experiments relentlessly with various solar, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle projects.
