Oh yeah, there have been thousands of megawatts of solar added in the United States, but this year we are seeing the benefit in bold terms in California. The drought has desiccated the hydroelectric resource normally available and lo, and behold, there is enough solar input into the grid to offset that loss.
So what have we learned from this news? My take is that climate change is real, and that the renewable energy resources that will combat climate change can also help to mitigate the effects thereof, which are predicted to linger for decades after man-made atmospheric carbon has been subdued. It’s a two-fer, thanks to our greatest and most useful source of energy, the sun.
Why, then, should we shrink from our responsibility to derive modern electrical energy from sources that are consistently renewable? Unless our irresponsible abuse of petrochemical resources covers the planet in a cloud shroud, solar and wind will be our most available and most reliable source of power for future generations, so will the present generations please get with the program?
