TAX CREDIT – Unless something changes in Washington DC, at the end of this year the federal tax credit is reduced from 30% to 26%.  It will be further reduced to 22% in 2020 and then in 2021 only the 10% business tax credit will remain, with no tax credit for homeowners.

INCOME – A solar energy system is the only home improvement that you can make that generates an income, meaning that it will pay for itself.  Solar will also add value to a home; a study done in California showed that home values are increased by the addition of solar.

REDUCE THE BURN – No matter where in Washington you are located, your solar kilowatt-hours will reduce the need for electricity that is generated by burning stuff.  71% of our electricity comes from hydroelectric dams, but coal and natural gas are still major sources of electricity here.

FUEL YOUR EV – If gas costs $3.50/gal, and a gas car gets 30 mpg, an electric car driving the same 30 miles will use just 9 kWh of electricity for a cost of $1.17, or 1/3 the cost of that gallon of gas.  The value of the solar power, though, is $3.50, or $0.39/kWh, because that is the cost of the fuel it is replacing.

RESILIENCE – Solar + Storage can provide essential power during an outage, from a few hours to days without utility power due to earthquake or other disaster.  You can get the tax credit for your battery too, if it is an integral part of your solar project.
