A Solar Generation Gap?

An interesting trend shows some surprisingly significant generational differences in the interest levels in “green” renovations by homeowners.

Younger homeowners (18 to 43-years-old) are much more interested in solar and energy-efficient appliances than older homeowners (57 to 75-years-old). 51% of the studies “younger” participants plan on adding solar! Only 33% of homeowners in the older group planned on going solar.

Home.com notes this may be the result of the younger generation’s greater acceptance that the Climate Crisis is real so they’re more motivated to mitigate the impact of more frequent and intense severe weather events, like wildfires, hurricanes and polar vortexes.

The younger homeowner group was also more interested in going solar than in investing in energy-efficient appliances, like heat pump water heaters, dishwashers, clothes washers and dryers.

Of course one issue facing younger homeowners is the upfront cost of going solar which is why the 25D Direct Pay proposal is so compelling as it would help less affluent, low to moderate (typically younger) households go solar.
