The recent severe weather storms that pounded the Pacific Northwest hit British Columbia especially hard. Roads and infrastructure connecting the region to the rest of Canada and the US were destroyed, resulting in the southwest British Columbia region deciding to put restrictions on the amount (30 liters) of gas people can buy.

This is reminiscent of the early 1970’s OPEC oil embargo and underscores the importance of energy security. In this case, the shortages weren’t the result of a political conflict but more likely a symptom of the Climate Crisis. British Columbia has been hit especially hard this year with the highest recorded temperatures (121 degrees) ever recorded in Canada, wildfires that destroyed the town of Lytton, and now the atmospheric river that destroyed infrastructure is causing massive flooding in the region.

Ironically, the inability to access gasoline was likely caused by humans burning fossil fuels and creating severe weather events. We are seeing more frequent and intense severe weather systems.

One way to avoid getting caught without fuel for your vehicle is to drive electric and use solar to charge your vehicle. Each day the sun provides clean, renewable fuel for your EV that’s not impacted by external variables like embargos or severe weather events which keeps your fuel supply secure.

When you’re ready to consider securing your fuel supply, give us a call at 206-706-1931 or fill out our contact form and tell us about your project. (We also install EV charging stations.)
